Phase Shifter is an immersive, dynamic, audiovisual work by artist group Squidsoup.
the piece combines bespoke wifi controlled audiovisual orbs with twin motor winds, giving the possibility of movement in two dimensions. 40 such units were arranged in a row, creating a massive snaking dynamic form, controlled in real time.
This is a document of the first showing of the project, at Royal William Yard, Plymouth (UK), in May-June 2021.
Project commissioned by Real Ideas Organisation.
Phase shifter is the final piece in a line of work investigating the use of dynamic series controlled motor winches.
A long design, engineering, development and production process included projects such as Light In Motion that formed the initial motor tests.
Squidsoup have taken the work even further now into an amazing dancing lightshow!
